    US Intrafirm Trade: Sectoral, Country and Location Determinants in the 90s.

    This paper studies the evolution and determinants of US interfirm trade between 1989-98. We will extend preview: similar econometric testing not only by using more recent data but also by considering inter-country differences In addition to inter-sectoral variation of interfirm trade. At the sectoral revet relevant factors appear to be technology intensity, the level of vertical integration, economies of scale and lh' Ie?eI of international production, as well as the impact of the geographic concentration of US parent firms. At the country level, the size of the market and some country specificities appear to favor interfirm trade while increasing levels of the tax rate on profits of th/ foreign country and economic distance disincentives this trade.

    In this research work, we introduce the concept of a reputation service to evaluate user collaboration towards community or system goal. Online reputation mechanisms allow members of a community to submit their opinions (feedback) regarding other community members and their publication activity. Submitted opinions are analyzed, aggregated with feedback posted by other members and made publicly available to the community in the form of member feedback profiles. We propose a conceptual system that can be used in several contexts, namely in our public transportation recommender system developed in the framework of the European Project START

    The current work deals with the scenario of growing population in the cities and the associated sustainable mobility problems. To address this problem it is developed an system called INTEGRA for a mobile device, based on the integration from different data sources such as multi-modal public transportation systems, car and bike sharing. This system is able to show and give guidance towards points of interests (POI) and promote a social collaborative network for the share of notations towards POI classification. This work is a contribution for the European Project START, where we propose the Integra System. This system’s goal is to make travel easy and sustainable improving information systems integration. This goal is shared by transport operators and authorities associated to the Integra registered brand, promoted by the START consortium, that is already prepared for UK, France, Spain and Portugal

    Mestrado em MarketingA marca JANGA pretende elaborar processos de marketing a curto prazo através do planeamento das respectivas acções, onde este estudo será fundamental. O objectivo deste plano passa por identificar o perfil sociodemográfico e lifestyle do consumidor JANGA para que a empresa possa canalizar e melhorar o seu processo de marketing-mix. Trata-se de uma empresa portuguesa a actuar no sector dos desportos aquáticos e que está em fase de arranque nesse mesmo mercado, oferecendo produtos diferenciadores de óptima qualidade. Para efectuar as análises necessárias ao estudo, recorreu-se à metodologia Action Research, com recolha de dados primários através de inquéritos por questionário e dados secundários a nível do foro interno da empresa. Na prática, foram efectuadas análises externas e internas, definidos objectivos e estratégia de marketing, especificadas acções a tomar e estabelecido um plano de execução que contribua para o processo de expansão sustentada da marca.The JANGA intends to produce marketing processes in the short term by planning their actions, where this study will be crucial. The aim of this plan is to identify the sociodemographic and lifestyle consumer profiles for the company, and improve the process of their marketing mix. JANGA is a Portuguese company acting in the sector of water sports and is starting up in the same market, offering differentiated products of excellent quality. To carry out necessary analyzes, we used the Action Research methodology, with primary data collection through surveys and secondary data at the internal level of the company. In practice, analyzes were carried out, external and internal marketing goals and strategies were defined. Further, specified actions to set an execution plan that contributes to the process of sustained expansion of the brand is presented

    Gestão e controlo de abastecimento de stock numa cadeia de retalho de desporto

    Mestrado em Engenharia e Gestão IndustrialA Sport Zone, empresa de retalho desportivo pertencente à Sonae SR, é neste momento a maior cadeia de lojas de desporto em Portugal. Conta também já com uma forte presença no mercado vizinho de Espanha. Portugal é o mercado de origem e de escoamento principal de stock da empresa, porém neste país a margem de crescimento é já limitada. A empresa tem assim como missão atual expandir o negócio à escala Ibérica, com a abertura de novas lojas, maioritariamente em Espanha. Em alinhamento com o crescimento de negócio, é necessário planear e assegurar a existência de stock para cada mercado, de acordo com as suas necessidades. O que desencadeou o projeto foi a necessidade de as equipas de gestão da cadeia de abastecimento conseguirem fazer uma gestão segmentada por mercado, de forma a serem tomadas decisões com base na taxa de consumo de cada mercado. Os gestores de stock ficam assim capazes de assegurar e ajustar o stock dos diferentes mercados com análise do consumo dos artigos por mercado. Com o desenvolvimento do projeto surgiu uma outra necessidade, que consiste em sugerir a libertação de stock em entreposto. A Sport Zone conta no entreposto com um volume considerável de artigos bloqueado, quer por reservas quer por stock dedicado ao canal Online. Desses artigos bloqueados, há casos excecionais em que os mercados já escoaram todo o stock disponível, no entanto, ainda existe em entreposto stock bloqueado que poderia abastecer as lojas dos mercados. Surge daí uma oportunidade de libertação de stock bloqueado para o mercado cuja procura é elevada, otimizando também desta forma o abastecimento multi-canal.Sport Zone is a sports retail company owned by Sonae SR and at the moment it is the largest chain of sport stores in Portugal. It has also a strong presence in the neighbour market of Spain. Portugal is the main market and source of stock for the company, but it already has a limited margin of growth. The current mission of the company is to expand the business to the Iberian range, with the opening of several new stores in Spain. In line with the growth of business, it is necessary to plan and ensure the right allocation of stock to each market according to their needs. What triggered this project was the need to do a segmented management of each market by the supply chain teams, so that all the decisions are taken based on the consumption rate of each market. With this analysis in mind, the stock managers would be able to secure and adjust the stock sent to different markets. With the development of this project, and taking advantage of the procedures created, another potential application was identified, which was to suggest the release of blocked stock in the warehouse (for reservations and the stock dedicated to online sales). Sport Zone account in the warehouse with a considerable amount of blocked items either by reservation or by stock dedicated to the online channel. There are exceptional cases where markets already leaked all available stock and there is still stock blocked in warehouse that could supply the shops of markets. This is an opportunity to release blocked stock for the market when the demand is high and also to optimize the multi-channel supply

    Mestrado em Contabilidade e Análise FinanceiraNesta dissertação de Mestrado procura-se desenvolver a temática dos grupos económicos empresariais, aquilatando da sua efetiva existência em Portugal, face aos conceitos geralmente aceites. A existência de um conjunto de especificidades económicas e legais leva a que o efeito país possa ter importância neste tipo de estudos. Neste sentido, é de máxima relevância conhecer, em sede de análise empírica a tipologia estrutural, propriedade, aspetos fiscais e legais que podem influenciar a organização, as possíveis vantagens da integração de uma entidade num grupo económico e o nível de atuação em termos geográficos dos grupos económicos de origem Portuguesa. No geral, os resultados obtidos demonstram a consonância entre as abordagens teóricas apresentadas e os resultados empiricamente alcançados, verificando-se a concentração da estrutura acionista, a preferência dos grupos pela estrutura piramidal em detrimento das alternativas, a utilização de capitais internos do grupo para financiamento de determinadas empresas e a forte dependência dos nossos grupos da dinâmica que em cada período caracteriza o mercado nacional.This Master's thesis seeks to develop the theme of economic business groups, evaluating its effective existence in Portugal, compared to generally accepted concepts. The existence of a set of different economic and legal factors can take to different results than on previous international studies. In this sense, it is of upmost importance to know, based on empirical analysis of the structural typology, property, tax and legal aspects that can influence the organization, the potential benefits of the integration of an entity in an economic group and the degree of actuation on geographic terms of economic groups of Portuguese origin. Overall, the results empirically achieved are in accordance with the theories presented. It shows the concentration of the shareholder structure, the groups organized by pyramid structure are prevalent over the others alternative, there is some evidence regarding internal financing used by some affiliates and strong dependence of the Portuguese groups dynamics in this market
